Empire of the Sun - We Are The People REMIXES

Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore, a.k.a. Empire Of The Sun, met in 2000 after being introduced by Luke's A&R executive Simon Moor in a bar in Sydney. Both were at the time signed to EMI and had already been working on their own projects The Sleepy Jackson and Pnau.
They instantly became friends and decided to team up. Luke and Nick's first collaboration was 'Tell the Girls That I'm Not Hangin' Out', which appeared on The Sleepy Jackson's 2003 debut album 'Lovers'.
But the pair fell out when Luke chose to use a different version of the song. After making up they reunited for two songs on Pnau's self-titled album in 2007, the initial jamming sessions for which sparked what would later become Empire of the Sun (under the working title of Steelemore).
As Luke was living in Perth at the time and Nick was in Sydney, the pair independently continued to write songs for the project and decided on the album's musical direction and style. Eventually the pair went into the studio with Peter Mayes to record the final material, all of which was entirely produced by themselves.
Although the name Empire Of The Sun has been attributed a 1984 novel by J. G. Ballard and it's Steven Spielberg movie adaption, they say that the name comes more from the idea of the fact that we're traveling around the world, going to all the places of empires of the civilization where the sun has been a theme of worship (you will see this in their videos).
It has been claimed that Donnie Sloan, bass player for Sneaky Sound System, threatened to take legal action against the band, in order to be recognized as writer, performer and producer on 'We Are the People', however, he subsequently claimed that the media took his words out of context, and also stated that he is very happy with his credits.

'We Are the People' was released as the second single from their debut album 'Walking on a Dream'. Since October 2010, the song has been used in the Vodafone TV commercial in Germany, which is probably the reason why the track topped the charts over there, while it 'only' achieved a top 30 position in their home country.

The track is also a briliant example of why I like remixes so much. And you can hear it, although the vast majority come without a video.
