William Orbit - Adagio for Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix) 1999

In 1936 American composer Samuel Barber wrote 'Adagio for Strings'.
Two years later, in 1938, Italian conductor Auturo Toscanini recorded it for the first time with the NBC Symphony Orchestra and took the piece on tour to Europe and South America.
It was radio broadcast over the announcement of Franklin D. Roosevelt's death, and was part of the soundtrack of the 1986 Vietnam war movie 'Platoon'.
In 1999, London-born British composer William Mark Wainwright, a.k.a William Orbit, produced a version which, remixed by Dutch DJ Ferry Corsten, went on to became one of the more remarkable pieces of contemporary music. Mark recommends.
